THAT mostly went out the window as the 'Bros' became 'ship bait' and it all took a cuter, more playful turn.įelicia Day was the final nail in the coffin for me. It often felt like there was no way it could end well. Early Supernatural reminds me a bit of Phantasm (brothers, muscle car, evil supernatural villain, desperate road trips), with equal bits of them hunting and being hunted (by demons and the law). The core Word of Darkness books, as well as the Hunter line-up, do a pretty good job of getting at the sort of feel I'd want such a game to have.īut I'm solidly NOT wanting the pulpier feel of things. NIght Shift if memory serves is more of an WoD type game. I'll deffer to others more knowledgeable than I. Seems like something Eden would have gobbled up)ģ. Its just a different beast than, Monster Hunter International, Bureau 13, or Supernatural (TV show, did they do an rpg of this? I don't recall. You may clip a few things in the process of learning the real truth, but the real truth is just as bad as the horrors, wiggling within. Its in my opinion more of a downer cosmic mind fuck. But its not the pulpy two fisted killing monsters, defeating evil with a shotgun kinda game/genre. (This is gonna be unpopular I just know) CoC. It was just pure unabashed fun, wrapped in the crazy kitchen sink pally idea machine.Ģ. Pallys system nowadays is kinda clunky, but back in 93 fuck everything was clunky. We ran a Game/campaign based on the Bureau 13 books and it was a blast. But one that my friends and I had a lot of fun with back in high school. I've been binge watching "Supernatural" with the Wife for the last bit and it's got me thinking about back in the day I always wanted to play "Hunter" before the WoD Hunter RPG was even a thing, and all my angsty friends wanted to do was play Vampire, ugh.Īnyways so I was thinking about other Monster Hunting RPG's and made a short list off the top of my head ( I'm sure there are more and some of my list other may or may not consider a monster hunting rpg)
